I would like to spend up to 6 weeks in Australia. When is the best time to go?

I’m planning a trip to Australia and want to know the best time of year to visit. I don’t know much about it, so I’m not sure “what I want” out of this vacation, but the cheapest time of year would be helpful. Thanks in advance ^.^
